Ok, so today I wimped out - I was signed up to go on the Rio Camuy Cave Park trip that was supposed to be an all-day trip, but I set my alarm for 6:30 this morning and woke up feeling sore and still exhausted.  I wanted to sleep and figured that if I ran myself down by overdoing it in Puerto Rico that I would be too tired and sick to function for these upcoming days when I have to teach.  In retrospect, I probably overbooked myself for Puerto Rico, but in my defense, we had to fill out the sign-up sheet for trips we wanted to go on before we got on the ship...so I really wasn't thinking about actually giving myself time to rest when I was signing up for all the cool trips being offered.  I guess I learned my lesson for future ports...it's probably best to limit oneself to one trip per day, maybe two tops if they aren't back to back.  We have to fill out a Scantron sheet for the remaining trips (the non-overnight trips in Brazil, South Africa, Mauritius and India) and the bigger overnight trips in Malaysia, China and Japan.  Those forms are due in by midnight on February 11th and then after they process them and put people into the lottery for those trips, we will find out which ones we got.  They deliver the list of trips you have and your tickets for the trips directly to your room.

Aside from sleeping until 12:30 this morning, I actually did drag myself out of bed and took a taxi to Old San Juan.  Some people I talked to mentioned they bought short wave radios at the Radio Shack in town and since I'm teaching a class called "Mass Media Systems Around the World" I thought it would be beneficial to get one too.  Apparently you get really good reception on them at sea, so I guess I'll find out.  It was really hot out so I didn't last long walking around town and I refuse to buy crappy souvenirs so after going to a local food store to pick up some snacks for my room, I headed back to the ship and took another nap before dinner.

Everyone had to be back on the ship by 9:00 pm (whenever we exit or enter the ship, we have to swipe our ID cards so the computer keeps track of who is on the ship at all times).  After each port, we have a faculty meeting as well and that was at 9:00 pm as well.  We met the interport lecturer who would be going with us for the leg from Puerto Rico to Brazil and talked about any other immediate issues that needed to be addressed.   That meeting lasted about an hour and at around 11:00 pm, the ship left the dock and we are now back at sea headed for Brazil.
